First of all, welcome to Awakened Worlds. I really hope your stay here is as enjoyable as the two years I have spent playing here. This is my welcome letter to you, and to all players and it is filled with all the advice I can offer.
First off, a few things about Awakened Worlds. Awakened Worlds is the product of many years of hard work by Che, our chief coder and head man in charge. It is an incredibly intricate world, with very dedicated builders. Many hours of blood, sweat and tears have gone into making this mud one of the largest and best in the sprawl. Awake (as some of us call it) is an RP optional mud. What this means is while no one is going to force you to RP, we ask that you refrain from doing things that are going to ruin the fun of those who are Rping. So, what exactly does that mean? It means not discussing out of character (OOC) things on the In Character (IC) channels such as the radio. It also means don’t discuss IC things on the OOC channels (such as OOC and Newbie). It means don’t go around acting like an idiot.
Being a new player on a mud can always be challenging, so here are a few helpful tips to make sure your start with us is a good one!
1. Buy a radio. Radios are the single most important piece of equipment a runner can get. They are how IC conversations take place across the mud and it is how you can find out about in game role playing events or ask for help in character!
2. The Newbie Channel is your friend! We have a staff of very competent and helpful people who want to answer your questions. We may not always know the exact answer, but they are always willing to find the answer for you!
3. Get involved! As a new player, one of the hardest things to do is get involved with the existing players. The best, and easiest way to do that here is listen to the radio and go where the action is. Take a break from auto runs and head over to Securo Ja or Matchsticks and grab and drink and see who you might meet!
4. Don’t try to ruin other’s fun! I can’t stress this enough. Remember that we have a lot of people with a lot of RP styles and a lot of desires of what they want out of Awake. If you are not happy with how someone is acting, then leave. If the player if violating mud policies, please let an immortal know. But please do not go into a raving fit about how someone’s RP is not right. Everyone is free here to do as they please as long as it is not interfering with the fun of another or breaking rules.
5. Read this post:

Davan put a LOT of work into it, and it is, quite frankly, the BEST advice you will ever get. Davan shames me, here.
Well, that is it! I hope you enjoy your stay on Awakened Worlds and it is as rewarding and fun as my time here has been. If you have any problems or questions, please feel free to contact me via MUDmail, private message or even send me a tell if I am online.
With Love,

And one of our newbie helpers, Quovley, wanted me to post this -
i happened to browse through the ooc boards in the game and this called out to me.
How to find runs and not get ridiculed on the radio. First draft.
In-Character (IC) and Out-Of-Character (OOC) are supposed to stay separate.
That is, you can't give URLs (web and email addresses, and so on) or mention
damage codes over the radio. Likewise, you can't discuss where to get runs
or just what run you are on now over the OOC channel.
"But the MUD is RP Optional", you say, "I don't have to think about all
that if I don't want to!". Sadly, that would ruin the RP experience for
people who do want to RP, so if you're going to use RP tools (the radio
is a RP tool), you'll have to RolePlay it. If you don't want to RP, you
lose the RP tools. You are free to choose, but there is a price.
Now for a more subtle point: We all love the radio, but us runners do
lots of illegal things and who knows who else is listening? RP tool,
remember? In the SR universe, the law might be on the heels of whoever
hired you, so you can't mention everything. Some things best stay in one
room instead of being broadcast over the entire MUD.
Mentioning Circuit Couriers on the radio is ok since the gig obviously
has a legit front. Some of the contacts are... much less legit. The Js
in Dante's also get mentioned often on the radio because everybody knows
about them, but most of them ask you to do illegal stuff. The other Js
you'll just have to find for yourself. Many runs, like some from Bunny,
bring you to other Js, so remember who you meet and talk to them later,
after you're done with this run. Incidentally, both Circuit Couriers and
Dante's are mentioned in a room description at the neophyte guild, and
still people ask about them. These are quests and some are intertwined.
Finding out new quests is part of the game.
So, please think before you ask. What would my character do? What would
be downright stupid to ask? What is the smart thing to ask? If you want
the skinny, make IC friends and ask them in person sometime. They might
take you on tow for a while, too.
