To find jobs explore. Since newbies cant be expected to explore before having fun try Rick's Eatery, Dantes, Afterlife, Circuit Couriers, and Purple Haze.
Ricks Eatery is were you start in the Neophyte Guild, Dante's is 1 west 3 south of Neophyte Guild, Circuit Couriers is in Auburn, Purple Haze and Afterlife are in Tacoma.
For autorun help type: help shadowruns, help johsons, help recap.
You can hail cabs. When in them read sign. Say keyword. "Nod" to get the cab to begin taking you to the location. Cabs are free until you earn 26 karma.
To get vehicles you buy in character creation examine the title. Neophyte Garage is in the Neophyte Guild.
Go to this link for a list of map help files:
http://www.awakenedworlds.net/index.php?page=3&mode=article&k=3
When you have a question try and use the help files. Before asking a question think of all the words in your question and use them. An example: How do I drive a car? Instead of asking this question try typing: help car & help drive. You will see at the bottom of those help files that there are other help files related to the question. VEHICLES, RIG, CONTROL, SUBSCRIBE, GRIDGUIDE, SPEED, RIGGERS To see them type: Help vehicle, help rig, help control, etc, all.
To explore the mud. Read the sign in cabs and go to all those locations. Read the map help files.
You also have access to the ooc channel and newbie channel: help ooc, help newbie. If people are around and can help you they usually do.
There are many things in the mud that are time consuming for players to do such as building, programming, and designing. Many times a number of players you see listed on the who list are not actually playing but doing these things. This means they are most likely not even seeing your questions.
Shadowrun was created about 15 years ago as a pen and paper role playing game. It can be an immense help and time saver for you if you can aquire the rule books for this game. The game is almost totally cannon Shadowrun 3rd edition. The most important book being the Core Rule book.
Try not to get discouraged. Take your time. Have fun.
After 26tke you are no longer a newbie. This means cabs will begin to charge you nuyen.
It also means when you are killed you will lose all your gear and respawn at a doc wagon office. To get your gear back you must go to were you died and get all your gear from your corpse of belongings.
Warning: All corpses and all gear left on them vanish forever after a copyover or crash. These may happen at any time without warning.
Get your gear back as soon as possible. Loging off and coming back a few hours later is not recommended.
Gear lost in this way will not be replaced.
It is highly recommended that you get a radio. Set it to the common channel by typing: radio center 8
While the mud is RP optional it is a good idea to get to know a few players IC and for them to get to know you. This is most useful if you need help getting your gear back after dying. Use the radio to get to know people IC or you can look around and find them at various clubs and bars.
Always keep some nuyen in the bank so you can buy a radio if you need help as well as pay for a cab to get back to your gear once you have died.
Here are directions to the bank at the Big Rhino from the Doc Wagon Offices.
w, n, n, w, w, w, w, w, w, n, n, se.
The Big Rhino is located at the intersection of "Second and Spring Street" in Downtown Seattle. It is close to both Dantes and the Neophyte Guild.
Once again. Use the map help files in the link above to learn your way around the mud, as well as the cab system.

Thanks for this. I'm a new player myself and it took me a good couple hours to really get the hang of things. Love the mud though. You can definitely see the time and effort put into it.

Those are able to be found on google. Thought it would help to condense the searching to a database that would be easily available where it's actually used.
Why not compile a list for us of damage codes for weapons, while you are trolling the forum, and put it here to help all the newbies out with the information you just took off.
As it is, there is no way to tell the damage codes on some of the weapons, because they have differing names from the weapons in the manuals.
It would also be nice to have the drug info, drink info and magic info that was in the database posted.
Food info would be nice. (by food drink and drug info I mean datavalues) This is an ooc board after all.
Armor codes would help too. Some of the items in awakenedworlds have different names so you have to buy it to see how much protection it gives. This could be avoided if there was a listing here.

Whether or not a pirated copy of a 3rd Edition Source book can be found on Google is none of our concern. What is of our concern is when you utilize our site and MUD to promote the piracy of said materials, which will not be tolerated.
End of discussion.
Weapons not found in any source books are based on their canon counterparts, and weapons follow a similar template to those of their type. The same can be said of armour, none of these drastically differ in form or function.
The database will be updated in the future.
