Subject: Lease Expiring Warning Needed!
|
Well today after the cash I lost most everything I had spent the last month acquiring due to an expired lease. Yes I know it is my fault, but there really should be an alert when you login. Something like 48 hours before your lease expires you are notified when you login that your rent is due.
I lost close to 100K worth of gear because of this mistake including my new computer, microtronics workshop, and I don't know how much in parts and chips... Now my character is filled because I have nothing to get new eval software, and I will most likely end up starting over, if I can talk myself into it...
Please can we get a lease warning.

Just want to add, I got hammered with this too. The warning would have been nice. Or even some sort of "get your slag and get out of here" container.

You might consider using player housing instead; players are usually more understanding with lease terms / warnings, and you get some roleplay out of it to boot. I do agree that a coded warning would be nice to have, though.

While I've not gotten around to coding in time warnings for my players, I noticed the login/logout menus had been broken for quite some time in regard to the rental status entry they had.
Admittedly, my codebase is notably older and more out of date than what Che's got, but here's how it's set up right now.
If you happen to select "3) Check rent status.", you'll be treated to a slightly colorized and neatly formatted output display detailing your reisdences and status, like so:
Code: | Lease Time Unit # Lifestyle Residency Location
---------- ------- --------- ----------------------
1469 Days : Attic High Musty Curio Shop
Permanent : Bsmt. Low Red Light District
Permanent : 2L Low Seattle Hilton
170 Days : 2A Low Clooney Ave Apts.
371 Days : B Low Boxwood Apartments

So far I've found this fairly effective, because like many other things, keeping track of your bills and paying them is your job, not mine. If you can't be arsed to at least check on it periodically, well, you pay price one way or another.
While not yet finished, a system is also being worked on to handle late fees and temporary storage of a renters possessions, which after a certain length of time will be sorted through and disposed of via different means depending on lifestyle and location.
Simplest guideline form we're going with there, low lifestyle is probably going to be the landlord selling all your crap off to cover debts. You'll wind up having to hunt through pawnshops and the like to recover what goods you had that might still be able to be tracked down. Middle and high are more likely to move all of it into a storage locker of some sort, where a player can retrieve it within X number of days, after which it will be sold off (blindly, no examining the contents) to anyone who has the cred. Luxury residentals would be far more likely to negotiate a means of recovering the equipment, but you'd have to find a new residence for a while, having proven yourself an unreliable credit risk.
