Major changes have been made to the way ammo and clips work, and for once a major change will make the game easier and less complex, not the other way around.
Gone is the days of buying clips from stores. The days of having to search around the entire metroplex and beyond for a specific clip are gone. Now all you will have to buy will be empty clips and boxes of ammunition.
Firearms have gone from the 4 types previously to the more canon 14 types. To do this with the old ammunition method would create hundreds of extra items to differentiate between clips for the different weapons.
With this change when you buy a weapon it will come free with a clip that fits a weapon of that type and magazine size. You can then fill this up with whatever ammo for that weapon type you choose.
"WHAT?!?!", I hear you say, "ONLY ONE CLIP!?!". No, this is the main change right here. There will only be one type of clip available for purchase from stores. This will be 'a blank weapon clip'. The first time you load this 'blank clip' into a weapon it will bind itself to a weapon of that type and magazine size. These clips can then be reloaded with ammo from an ammo box for the sort of weapon you require.
The result of this is that you no longer need to endlessly search for something that would, in 'reality', be easy to find or even jury-rig yourself. The only thing you need to search for is that lucrative source of APDS assault rifle ammunition.
The MOTD will be updated to reflect when this change has gone live.

I'm curious as to why the number of weapon types has gone up so sharply. What distinguishes a light pistol from a heavy pistol or a machine pistol in code? Do they have abilities or modifiers unique to their specific weapon class?

I have changed the routine for bonding blank clips to weapons to now use the command 'Bond <weapon>'. This will bond the first blank clip in your inventory to the weapon specified.
