Anyone who would like to try building with OLC (online creation) for the AwakeMUD codebase may logon to host: lush.mcp-server.com port: 1234 and I will set you up with a zone to build on. The OLC allows you to create a zone with rooms, mobs, items, quests etc, using a series of menus. If I'm not around, email me with your request. You may do with your zone as you please (i.e offer it to Che for inclusion in AW or export it to your own MUD). I will be happy to answer questions and of course you can always post them here on the AwakeMUD dev board for the benefit of future builders.
It should be noted that this server is in no way directly affiliated with AW's administration. However, I have been an AW player for years and would like to give any and everyone who's interested an opportunity to try their hand at building for this codebase. Because few people are actually able to build good zones and of those who start an area, few actually finish, I feel like trying out the 'million monkeys on a million build ports' theory to see what we can come up with.
Perhaps Che would like to say something about his policy for accepting zones? I know his standards are very high and he has not been keen, in the past, on the idea of importing zones built elsewhere, but if someone builds a righteous badass zone he may be enticed to make an exception. Cheers.

I'd love to. Use to do a lot of building/coding and all that on various MU*s yearssss ago... and when I say years... I mean.... 10 years ago or so lol.
Just started playing on awake and am enjoying it very much thus far. Top notch. This has been my first MU* that I've played in 10 years as well and it's bringing back a lot of good memories!
Sadly I don't recall much as far as coding/building goes these days but I'm sure it's like riding a bike. Does Awake use their own style of building or is it the same or similar to other MU*s?
Ie does it use @dig style commands?

There are equivalents to dig. A lot of the stuff opens up prompts to edit things. Like iedit (vnum), redit (vnum), medit (vnum, qedit (vnum), sedit (vnum), for items, rooms, mobs, runs, and stores, respectively. It's all ridiculously self-explanatory. The only things that can be irritating are sedit and qedit, since there's a certain protocol and order you should follow if you want it to work right. Good luck.

As far as I know, the policy on adding in foreign zones is this:
Absolutely never. No exceptions.
The reason is that people can sneak in hidden cheating things- twinked items, matrix jacks, farm mobs, guns that're just a little too strong, APDS without the order time, a new shop holding all their favorite wares, a bolt-hole- the list goes on and on. Loading up a new zone and then checking it exhaustively for cheats is, well, exhausting. IMHO, your best bet if you want a zone put in is to submit it to a builder via text files and hope it's picked to be put in.
However, if anyone's interested, we've got a slight start on a linked set of helpfiles for the Wiz commands at the unofficial wiki, http://awakemud.wikispaces.com/

From what I gathered I thought he had compiled the codebase and is hosting it completely seperate from Awake and thus nothing will actually ever cross over and that it was just up for training/fun purposes?

For over a month, now, my access to this place isn't working. I put a lot of hours into that insane asylum! What gives?!

I was just posting up my take on the zone-porting policy. But yeah, you're right, that port is pretty much just for practice / fun.

This is Akimbo. Akimbo's forum account has been banned since April 7th AST. As a result, I have been unable to check any PMs you may have sent through the forum. In the future, if you have any problems with the build port, please contact me at shillmud@mcp-server.com to be sure I receive your feedback/complaint.
There were some difficulties while switching to a new server. I believed all of them had been corrected since I had not received any complaints. Your zone is fully intact and, after a quick check of your file, I don't immediately see any problems with your access. Please send me an email with specifics and I'll make sure you are able to finish it if you so choose.
As for Che's policy on integrating these zones, I doubt it will happen any time soon but you may request the actual zone file at any time and do with it as you please. I am willing and able to offer constructive feedback and/or editing of your work if desired and would also like to keep them on the port as, if nothing else, a gallery of work on the AwakeMUD codebase.
I'm glad to see some interest. If anyone has any more questions about getting setup to build, feel free to post here or email at the above address.
This build port is in no way affiliated with Awakened Worlds (beyond running the same publicly available codebase and encouraging discourse on this dev board).
